How working together works
Last updated October 3, 2026
These terms keep things clear and fair for both of us. When you check the box on my contact form, or ask me to build or update your website, you agree to them. If anything here doesn't work for you, just tell me before we start. I'm happy to send you a copy anytime.
1. I build it first
- After a quick call about your business, I design your site and show it to you, usually in about 1 week.
- You don't pay anything up front. If you love it, you pay and I launch it. If it's not for you, you can walk away and owe nothing.
- If you walk away, the design stays mine and won't be launched or handed over.
2. Who owns the design before you pay
- Until your final payment is made in full, all designs, previews, mockups, written content I create and code remain the property of Loftwell Digital.
- Previews are shared so you can review your site. They can't be copied, downloaded, rebuilt by someone else or used anywhere else unless you've paid for them.
- Your website files, any logins, and connecting the site to your domain all happen only after your payment clears.
- Anything you gave me (your logo, photos and text) always stays yours, whether or not you go ahead.
3. What's included
- Full Website ($700): a custom design built from scratch, up to 5 pages (for example Home, About, Services, Gallery, Contact). Each page is a standard layout of up to about 6 sections, not an endless scroll.
- Website Refresh ($400): a modern redesign of your current site, up to 5 pages, using your existing text and photos.
- Every site is built with accessibility basics (readable colors, screen-reader labels and keyboard-friendly navigation) and includes a simple privacy policy page. Sites don't use tracking cookies unless you ask for them.
- Both include a phone-friendly layout, tap-to-call, Google-ready basics (page titles, descriptions and fast loading), free hosting, help writing or polishing your page text, 2 rounds of changes, and launch.
- Extra pages beyond 5 are $50 each, at the same standard size. I'll confirm your total before I start.
- Pages longer than about 6 sections are quoted up front.
- Not included in the flat price: features that need a database or live accounts, like online stores and checkout, member or customer logins, booking systems and custom search filters, plus logos and other add-ons. These need custom planning and sometimes a paid outside tool, so I'll quote them up front before doing anything, and it's always your choice.
4. What I need from you
- Your text, photos, logo and business details within 7 days of our first call, so I can keep your project on schedule.
- Feedback on each version within 7 days.
- If I don't hear from you for 30 days, I may close the project. We can always restart it later.
5. Changes
- 2 rounds of changes are included. A round is one list of changes sent together.
- After the 2 included rounds, you decide: (1) approve the site and pay, (2) add extra rounds of changes, which I'll quote up front and which are paid before I start, or (3) walk away and owe nothing. If you walk away, the design isn't launched or handed over.
- "Pay only if you love it" covers the site after the 2 included rounds. It doesn't mean unlimited free changes.
- Changes after that, or big changes to the direction after a design is approved, are quoted before I start.
6. Payment
- Payment is due when you approve the final site, before it goes live. I'll send you a secure payment link.
- Founding client pricing ($100 off) is for my first 5 clients, in exchange for an honest review and permission to show your site as an example of my work.
7. Monthly care plans
- Standard hosting is free with every website, with or without a care plan.
- Care plans are billed monthly and you can cancel anytime. Cancelling stops future charges; past months aren't refunded.
- A "small edit" is a quick update to existing content that takes about 15 minutes or less, like changing hours, swapping a photo, updating a price or fixing a typo. New sections, new pages and redesigns aren't edits and are quoted separately.
- Basic includes 1 small edit a month, Growth up to 5, and Pro up to 5 plus 1 new page or 2 blog posts a month. Edits and content are use-it-or-lose-it: unused ones don't roll over to the next month. Extra small edits beyond your plan are $35 each. Full details are on my edits page.
- Without a care plan, your site stays online for free. Small edits are $35 each, paid before I start, and bigger changes are quoted up front. Sites without a plan don't get updates, backups or monitoring, and care-plan clients' requests come first.
- No hidden software fees. I don't use paid plugins; if a feature you want ever needs a paid tool, I'll tell you the cost before adding it.
8. Ownership
- Once you've paid in full, the website design, content and code are 100% yours.
- Your site is built with standard HTML and CSS that any web designer can edit. If you ever cancel or want to move on, I'll hand over all your website files.
- If I ever stop offering care plans, I'll give you at least 60 days' notice and hand over everything you need to keep your site running.
- You're responsible for having the rights to any text, photos or logos you send me.
- I may show your finished site as an example of my work unless you ask me not to.
9. Google and results
I set up the basics so Google can find and understand your site, but no one can guarantee search rankings, traffic or sales. Ranking higher takes time and depends on many things outside my control.
10. Hosting, outages and security
- Hosting is free for standard websites (everything in my packages) and includes secure https (the padlock), so browsers never show a "Not Secure" warning.
- If you later add features that need paid hosting, like an online store, customer logins or a database, I'll tell you the cost before anything is added. Those costs are yours, and it's always your choice.
- You buy your own domain name (about $15 a year) with your own account, so it's always in your name and under your control. I never hold your domain or your payment details. I'll walk you through buying it and connect it to your site for free (see the domain guide).
- Your site may rely on outside services like hosting companies, domain providers and form tools. I'm not responsible for their outages, price changes or policies.
- I build sites with care and keep care-plan sites updated, but no website is 100% safe from hacks or downtime. I'm not liable for losses caused by outages, hacks or third-party services.
- If something breaks, I'll work with you to get it fixed as quickly as I can.
11. Limitation of liability
- I'm responsible for doing careful, professional work. I'm not responsible for indirect losses like lost sales, lost profits or lost data caused by outages, hacks, viruses, third-party services, or changes made to your site by anyone else.
- My total responsibility for any problem, of any kind, is limited to the amount you paid me for the project or care plan it relates to.
- You're responsible for the content you give me (text, photos, logos, prices and claims about your business) and for having the rights to use it.
- Your site doesn't store payment cards or sensitive customer data unless we agree to add a feature that does, and any such feature would use a trusted outside service.
12. Using this website
- You're welcome to browse this site, read it and contact me through it. Please don't copy its design, text or code for your own use, or try to misuse, overload or break it.
- The information here is general and may change. Prices and terms in effect when we start your project are the ones that apply to it.
13. If we disagree
- If something goes wrong, tell me first. I'll work with you in good faith to make it right, and most problems get solved with a quick call.
- If we can't sort it out ourselves, these terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin.
